At 53, former Boston Bruins goalie Blaine Lacher passes away.
Blaine Lacher, an Albertan who played goalkeeper with the Bruins for portions of two seasons, passed away on Monday. 53 was his age.
Lacher’s family stated that he passed away unexpectedly, however they did not specify why.
The Bruins expressed their “deep sadness” over the loss of former goalie Blaine Lacher in a statement. We offer his friends, comrades, and family our deepest sympathies.
Lacher had a distinguished career at Lake Superior State, where in 1994 he was a key member of the Lakers’ Division 1 winning team.
Lacher finished 20-5-4 during that stretch, leading the country in goals against average (1.98) and save percentage (.918). His 375-minute shutout streak stands out.
Lacher signed as a free agent with the Bruins, forfeiting his remaining eligibility year. In his first NHL season (1994–1995), he went 19–11-2, but in his second and last NHL season (3-5–5), he had trouble.
He played in the IHL for two seasons after leaving Boston, retiring in 1996.
Lacher leaves one son, Quin, according to his obituary from the Cook-Southland Funeral Chapel.
