It’s amazing that the Hoosiers couldn’t choose a better head coach.
Woodson, who has been an NBA head coach since 1996 (a very successful year, I should add), will bring a 315-365 record to Hoosierville from his time spent leading the Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks.
During his tenure years as head coach, Woodson’s teams were eliminated from the postseason four times, defeated twice in the first round, and eliminated three times from the Eastern Conference Semifinals. There is no conference finals series he has attended.
Being an Indianapolis native and Indiana alum, Woodson is perhaps one of the best candidates because he will have the best sense of the program.
The only benefit of this job is that.
The 63-year-old, who is an assistant for the Knicks right now, has never been a college coach.
That the Hoosiers weren’t able to locate a better coach is astonishing. Running an NBA team is undoubtedly something Woodson enjoyed at times, but college sports are a whole different story.
And just think about having to pay a $10 million buyout to fire Archie Miller just to bring in…Mike Woodson.
We won’t be proclaiming “Indiana basketball is back” very soon, though I could be mistaken.
Well, at least we have lots of Mike Woodson face to look forward to. The things in life that truly make us happy are the little victories.
