Podcast: Should Brad Holmes Step Up His Aggression This Offseason?
The Detroit Lions will keep working toward their goal of becoming a consistent contender.
The team wants to advance farther to truly compete in and win a Super Bowl, but bringing in multiple expensive free agents this offseason may not be in the cards, despite the demands of certain fans for the team to be more aggressive.
“Dan and I have always been very direct and honest with everyone. “Once more, every action is deliberate,” stated Holmes. “To reiterate, every action we do and every inaction we take is deliberate. I’ll even go back to our previous Drafts; each selection, free agent, and signing was done with great purpose.
Therefore, I don’t want to ruin the fans’ happiness. They should be happy of their football team because the supporters deserve it and have earned it. I also want them to know that every decision we make in the coming months is intended to help us win in December. It is not to win March, April, and May, even though that is doable.”
The front office chief of Detroit is conscious of the people evaluating his choices, but he stressed that choices are made with the long-term goal of maintaining a certain level of success in mind.
“If gaining attention is your goal, you can succeed in March, April, and May. Yet keep in mind that everything is deliberate, even though it might not seem like it or might appear odd, making you wonder, “Well, why they do this?” Believe me,” said Holmes. “Winning in December is the goal. And for that reason, we have taken the actions that we have. And the truth is that not everyone is able to participate in this game. It is a fact that not everyone is suited to play for the Detroit Lions.
