Four Dallas Cowboys are among the finalists for top NFL awards
This season, the Associated Press named several Dallas Cowboys players as nominees for major honors.
Dak Prescott of the Cowboys, who was selected to the second team of the All-Pro team, was nominated as an MVP and Offensive Player of the Year finalist.
Christian McCaffrey of the 49ers and quarterback Lamar Jackson of the Ravens, who is the clear favorite to win MVP, were also named contenders.
Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills and Brock Purdy of the 49ers were also named MVP finalists.
Among the OPOY finalists, Prescott wasn’t the only Cowboys represented. Another finalist was his standout receiver, CeeDee Lamb.
This season, the connection was amazing. Lamb set franchise single-season records in yards and catches at the end of this campaign. At the end of the regular season, he had 12 touchdowns and 1,749 yards from 135 receptions. Nine times, he received more than 100 yards in the air, with his career-high 227 yards coming in Week 17 against the Lions.
Prescott had an outstanding season as well. The biggest summary of it was most likely the increase in interceptions and touchdowns. He shared the lead in interceptions from the previous season. He had the most touchdown passes in the NFL this season. 36 touchdowns, nine interceptions, and 4,516 yards were his final game total for the regular season. Also, he completed 69.5% of his passes, a career-high percentage.
Additionally, DaRon Bland, a second-year cornerback, and pass rusher Micah Parsons were the Cowboys’ two nominees for Defensive Player of the Year.
During his first two seasons, Parsons placed second in the DPOY standings. He came up again this year. His 103 total pressures lead the NFL. And he had fourteen sacks. He became the first athlete to have at least 13 sacks in his first three seasons since Hall of Fame pass rusher Reggie White.
Bland’s year was significant as well. With five interception returns for touchdowns, he set an NFL record. With nine interceptions overall for the season, he finished first. Bland, a former Fresno State fifth-round selection, has 14 interceptions in his first two seasons.
The other contenders for DPOY are Cleveland defensive end Myles Garrett, Pittsburgh Steelers pass rusher T.J. Watt, and Raiders pass rusher Maxx Crosby.
The NFL Honors ceremony on will announce the winners on Feb. 8.
