Florida couple arrested for kidnapping an infant after posing as Amazon delivery drivers

According to People Magazine, a couple from Florida has been detained for allegedly stealing a newborn from a state city in Washington, where one of the suspects claimed to be an Amazon delivery driver.

King County prosecutors have accused Marlly Jarina Ardila-Urrego, 33, and Chun Ho Vincent Lai, 42, of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree burglary, second-degree assault of a minor, first-degree robbery, and second-degree assault.

According to reports, the two intended to abduct Ardila-Urrego’s relative’s baby. Prosecutors in the case claim that the couple, who reside in Florida, went up to Washington State to kidnap the 7-month-old.

Ardila-Urrego reportedly asked her cousin—the baby’s mother—what her address was in the days before the tragedy. According to papers cited by the outlet, Ardila-Urrego informed the woman that she had placed an order for a bed frame for her child and that it would be delivered on February 20.

When that day finally came, according to Fox News Digital, the woman said her husband had left for work when she heard a knock on the door. She continued to report to the authorities that she had noticed someone there through the peephole, identifying herself as a delivery driver with an Amazon box.

Upon the victim’s eventual opening of the door, Lai is said to have confronted her, repeatedly punching her in the face before dragging her to the ground and zip-tying her ankles and wrists, according to court filings. The victim did not know the woman who entered the flat and restrained her as the male packed the baby in an Amazon box and fled the scene.

After Ardila-Urrego and Lai were taken into custody, the 7-month-old was given back to its parents. Each suspect’s bond was set at $700,000, and their arraignment was slated for March 7 in the morning.

According to Fox News Digital, there is no proof that “mental illness or substance abuse contributed to this crime,” and the authorities have not been able to pinpoint a specific motivation in the case.
