Against Florida State, Armando Bacot creates even more basketball history for UNC.
Armando Bacot’s effort on Saturday afternoon for the UNC basketball team wasn’t typical of his own, as the fifth-year big man was only able to muster five points and four rebounds.
Bacot made some history in UNC basketball history even if his stat line wasn’t the most noteworthy during the Tar Heels’ triumph over Florida State.
As of right now, Bacot is the only basketball player from UNC to ever accumulate 1,000 defensive rebounds. Bacot has reached yet another significant milestone in his otherwise outstanding collegiate career.
We are aware of this, so please don’t bombard us with comments like “well, Bacot has had five years to accomplish this.” That doesn’t lessen what the native of Richmond, Virginia has accomplished as a Tar Heel, though, as he still plays a fantastic role for the UNC basketball team.
It’s time for college basketball fans to stop criticizing Bacot for using his additional season of eligibility and instead take a moment to recognize all that he has accomplished in his career. Bacot is just taking advantage of his opportunity now that the COVID year and the NIL rules are in place. This will provide him more time to reach goals and receive recognition as his time as a UNC basketball player comes to an end in a few short weeks.
In case you forgot, there have been many outstanding rebounding big men who have donned the Carolina Blue. Bacot’s performance on Saturday served as just another reminder of his excellence. He has established himself as one of the finest rebounders the UNC basketball program has ever had.
Right now, the UNC basketball program is thriving. There isn’t another way to phrase it. Nine times in a row, the Tar Heels have prevailed by double digits. They have demonstrated during this run of play that they are capable of winning with offense (103-67 triumph against Syracuse) or defense (65-55 victory at Clemson), or both.
As of right now, North Carolina is 16-3 overall, 8-0 in the conference, and third in the Associated Press Poll. This Saturday, when they play Florida State in Tallahassee, they’ll want to maintain their winning streak and perfect record.
The Seminoles are 12-7 overall and currently in second place in the ACC with a 6-2 conference record.
It has been difficult to figure out the potential of Florida State. They led North Carolina by 14 in the second half back in early December before losing by eight. The Seminoles led Georgia by 17 and lost by two. The latest and most questionable outcome was a 78-75 loss versus Lipscomb on December 30th.
Since that loss to Lipscomb, they enter this game, winning six of their last seven games, with the lone loss coming to Clemson at home. This will not be a cakewalk for the Tar Heels to stay undefeated in conference play. The Tucker Center has caused problems as of late for North Carolina, and they are 1-3 in the last four games in Tallahassee versus the Seminoles, dating back to 2017-18.
