Curt Miller is unable to defeat his previous squad.
For the first time since taking over in Los Angeles, the head coach of the Sparks will be facing his old team, the Connecticut Sun. He has the opportunity to see the franchise he helped revitalise continue his legacy or lead his new team to its best victory of his brief stint.
The Sun won 83-74 at Crypto.com Arena on Sunday, handing the Sparks (5-6) their third defeat in the previous four games. Miller’s former squad outperformed his current one.
Forward Nneka Ogwumike led the Sparks with 19 points and 15 rebounds, but the Sun outscored the Sparks 20-11 in the fourth quarter, led by 20 points and nine rebounds from DeWanna Bonner.
Miller stated, “We hate losing and not defending our home court, but I think we’re proving ourselves despite the adversity, despite numerous players who are on our rotation being out.” We have these teams to play with. We are able to compete against the league’s best clubs.
Despite switching coaches and trading 2021’s most valuable player Jonquel Jones during the offseason, the Sun (9-3) are still among the best in the WNBA. Connecticut is the only club to defeat the reigning champion Las Vegas Aces and is ranked second in the league.
