The most powerful player in the history of women’s hoops.
After taking home the trophy from the previous season, Caitlin Clark of Iowa has been added to the Nancy Lieberman Top 10 Watch List. A survey of basketball specialists who rank the top 10 point guards in women’s basketball selected Clark.
This season, Clark has shattered a number of records, including the most Big Ten Player of the Week awards—as of Tuesday, she has won 25, to be exact. As the only player in Division I history to achieve more than 3,300 points, 900 assists, and 800 rebounds in her NCAA career, she has shattered Iowa’s all-time scoring, assists, and three-pointers records. In addition, the senior is the first player in the history of collegiate women’s basketball to receive two AP National Player of the Week awards in a single season.
The top point guard in NCAA Division I college basketball receives this award, which honors athletes that possess Nancy Lieberman’s playmaking, leadership, and ball-handling abilities. Due to her impressive collegiate play, Lieberman earned the nickname “Lady Magic.” She averaged 18.1 points per game, scored 2,430 points, grabbed 1,167 rebounds, and established an Old Dominion school record for assists (961). In addition, she totaled 961 assists and 562 steals.
When the Hawkeyes play Nebraska again on Saturday, January 27, Caitlin Clark will try to increase her stats even further this season.
