An 83-year-old Lions supporter who is dying goes viral after dying his hair blue.
FOX 2 (WJBK) – Michiganders support the Detroit Lions in a variety of ways, but an 83-year-old man went above and above by dying his hair a vivid blue color while receiving hospice care.
“Man it took off like wildfire, much more than I ever thought,” said Saginaw resident Larry Benjamin, whose hair with a Lions motif attracted a lot of attention on the internet.
Even though Benjamin has lung fibrosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, he nevertheless exudes a lion’s spirit.
Benjamin was inspired when he watched Amon-Ra St. Brown, the wide receiver for the Lions, showing off his blue-dyed hair. Benjami posted a picture of his son’s vivid blue hair on social media, and it quickly gained a lot of admiration.
“Everything that happened surprised me,” Benjamin remarked. “I was just hoping a few people would say ‘OK I’ll dye my hair blue too.’”
A reporter questioned St. Brown about it on Thursday.
That’s really amazing to witness. Knowing that you can impact other people’s life simply by participating in sports and being who you are humbles me as a player,” St. Brown remarked. Actually, if I can, I’m going to try to get in touch with him tomorrow. However, it’s undoubtedly interesting to observe.”
Benjamin received a video call from St. Brown the following Friday.
“It was very good, I was really impressed with him – he’s a fine looking young man,” Benjamin stated.
That’s not all, though.
“Chris Speilman also gave me a call last week. When Barry was there, he played middle linebacker,” the 83-year-old recalled. “He wanted to thank me for my blue hair.”
Benjamin is throwing a party for the Lions-Bucs playoff game on Sunday.
“I got neighbors, relatives – were going to have a big ol’ nacho party,” stated the man. “It’s going to be super.”
