The Outlander star, who went to school in the nation’s capital, is returning to the area to commemorate the release of his latest beverage line.
The 44-year-old was present at The Kimpton Charlotte Square on Wednesday night for an evening honoring Scottish companies, which also included Scottish designers Siobhan Mackenzie and skincare brand Ishga.
Sam expressed his excitement at being back in the capital to Edinburgh Live. I was raised in Edinburgh, which is where I am from. As a child, I used to go to the Fringe every time,” he remarked.
“But also my first professional job as an actor was on stage at the Traverse. I love being in the heart of the Fringe, I love the buzz and the energy, everything that’s going on.
“It’s a great place for us to showcase the Sassenach, alongside some other amazing craftspeople and celebrating Scottish culture and Scottish heritage, It means a lot to me.”
He added, “There are so many answers to that question, but I think ultimately it’s a personal thing.” in reference to his Sassenach Spirits and what makes it Scottish for him. I adore our history and tradition, the countryside, and our wonderful spirit. I’m a proud Scot and I share a lot of stories about it.
Therefore, we are attempting to promote Scottish goods, which is something I kind of want to accomplish with Sassenach Spirits.
Television reporter Laura Boyd questioned the TV star about the origins of his brand during the Q&A portion of the event.
Sam talked about how painstakingly it was made. “The gin itself,” he stated
“I really tried everything, I really wanted to make this gin stand up, not only on it’s own but in a cocktail.
Sam Heughan was in attendance with the expert team from Ishga in the Hebrides and Siobhan Mackenzie – a Scottish fashion designer who is reinventing the classic kilt. She has dressed in recent weeks, singers Jared Leto and Shania Twain.
The three high-end Scottish brands will be available to sample and shop at the pop-up boutique – a hotel within a hotel and its own entrance at no. 33 Charlotte Square from August 8-11.
