Using the transfer portal, Venables and offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh reconstructed the majority of the line in the offseason by adding players like Hatchett, Spencer Brown of Michigan State, Febechi Nwaiwu of North Texas, and Michael Tarquin of USC. During practice, the newcomers have made an impression, with Nwaiwu appearing to assume a leadership position.

Additionally, head coach Brent Venables will have to rely on inexperience because Troy Everett, the Sooners’ probable starting center, will miss the remainder of spring practice due to a right leg injury. Everett should definitely consider Washington transfer Geirean Hatchett, who occasionally filled in at all five offensive line spots for the Huskies.
Hatchett hasn’t practiced though because he is recovering from an undisclosed injury of his own. Redshirt freshman Josh Bates, who saw little action last season, and freshman Josh Aisosa have both worked out at center behind Everett this spring.

Venables also expressed his satisfaction with several offensive linemen, including redshirt freshman Logan Howland and Heath Ozaeta, freshmen Daniel Akinkunmi and Isaiah Autry, redshirt sophomore Jake Taylor, and junior Jacob Sexton, who will almost certainly start at left tackle. Everett misses a lot of time, which hurts Oklahoma’s depth.
It’s difficult to imagine the offensive line not being a priority once more, according to Venables, who stated that OU will be active in the spring transfer portal when it opens on April 16. For the time being, he is pleased with the development of his gifted young players.
