PHILADELPHIA— On Saturday, September 14, University of Missouri tennis concluded the second day of competition at the Penn Invitational, which was organized by the University of Pennsylvania and held at the Hamlin/Hecht Tennis Centers. The Black and Gold faced Penn in singles and doubles matches to start the match, then played singles matches against Syracuse and St. Joseph to end the day. The Tigers finished the weekend with 11 team victories, five of which came during the day.

Lailaa Bashir, a graduate student, and Gian Octa, a freshman, defeated Tkachenko and Stojanovski of Pennsylvania 8–4 in the opening doubles match of the morning. In the afternoon, both Tigers won singles matches versus St. Joseph. Bashir won 6-2, 6-3 over Tracey, who was ranked No. 3 in the rankings. Octa won a fiercely contested singles match against Tang at the No. 4 position, 4-6, 6-1, 10-7, extending the match to three sets. Additionally, Octa defeated Penn’s Stojanovski in singles, winning 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. Senior Inah Canete defeated Syracuse’s Kimoto, who is presently ranked No. 24 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) preseason rankings, 7-5, 6-4 on the No. 1 court.

Fantastic victory for Inah over the nation’s number-24 player, Miyuka Kimoto. Another excellent day with some progress made by the team. Next up The Tigers’ autumn campaign will resume from October 9–14 in Memphis, Tennessee, in the ITA Regional Championships.
