Cowboys Trade Pitch Adds Former First-Round WR, Drops $57.5 Million Bust.

Brandin Cooks

Cowboys supporters are still upset with the team’s most recent deal with the Cleveland Browns. In exchange for a sixth-round pick and a 2022 fifth-round pick, Dallas shipped Amari Cooper to Cleveland.

There are now talks going around regarding possible moves the Cowboys could make throughout the summer. Potential trade offers were provided by Bleacher Report for every NFL team. The Browns and Cowboys are partnering once more for a receiver after one trade pitch.

In the trade proposal, Dallas sends Brandin Cooks to Cleveland in exchange for a fifth-round pick (No. 134) in 2024. Fans in Dallas will be incensed at the thought of the Cowboys trading another receiver to the Browns.

In an article titled “Complete NFL Offseason Trade Guide for Every NFL Team,” published on January 29, 2024, Bleacher Report stated, “Brandin Cooks could be one of their top trade candidates.” “Trading away the veteran would save them $4 million against the cap, and they already paid a small draft fee for him in the previous offseason.

When Deshaun Watson was Cooks’ quarterback in 2020, Cooks did some of his best work while he was in Houston. The Browns are now in a desperate attempt to ensure that Watson lives up to the compensation and trade package they forfeited for him. Reuniting the two should be taken into consideration if it will solve the problem.

The Cowboys would be well advised to hold off on trading Cooks until they acquire another receiver in exchange, as they discovered when they moved Cooper. Since moving to Cleveland, Cooper has nearly reached 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons.

In 2023, the playmaker tallied a career-high 1,250 yards and five touchdowns. This comes after Cooper’s 1,160 yards and nine touchdowns in the previous campaign.

Instead of keeping Cooper, Dallas decided to sign Michael Gallup to a five-year, $57 million contract. Gallup suffered an ACL injury at the start of 2022, which has prevented him from having the same effect.

The good news is that one of the NFL’s best receivers, CeeDee Lamb, has emerged. But since trading Cooper, Dallas has struggled to identify a reliable second receiving option.
