‘ABSOLUTE STEAL’: SUTTON URGES £3m DEAL
Chris Stewart believes that if Brendan Rodgers can buy Adam Idah for £3 million from Norwich City, the striker would be “an unbelievable steal.”
The on-loan 23-year-old Republic of Ireland international powerhouse hoisted his goal tally to six in as many starts when he rifled in the third at Ibrox on Sunday.
Idah’s whiplash low effort eluded keeper Jack Butland at his left to put the champions 3-2 in front in the 87th minute, but the frontman was denied a famous winner when some slack defensive play allowed Rabbi Motondo to thump in the stoppage-time leveller to make the final score 3-3.
Sutton, a former legend of Parkhead goal scoring, has expressed his admiration for the Cork-born forward who temporarily switched from the Championship club in January.
“The one thing you observed last weekend was the bench was considerably stronger than it has been,” the media commentator stated. Take a look at the effect Adam Idah made when he first appeared.
Some argue that he ought to have been introduced earlier, but he made an effort and was unfortunate not to be the matchwinner.
“Jack Butland scored a fantastic goal for the third, finishing it through the defender and straight down low towards the keeper’s leg. I felt that some of the criticism directed at him was unwarranted.”
Idah would not have been an Old Firm hero if not for Rabbi Matondo’s outstanding equalizer.
He has only strengthened his cause for a permanent transfer this summer, as it was. Idah has scored six goals in just nine games, yet he has only made six starts. Norwich City supporters must be wondering how he has been scoring goals.
“No, I don’t. I’ve always maintained that he is capable and that sometimes a player needs a fresh perspective to become more engaged.
“By all accounts, Idah was the one who really pushed for the move to Celtic and he’s taken his moment,” Sutton continued in an interview with the Daily Record. Although it wasn’t easy when he first took office, he has gained a lot of admirers.
“When he first arrived, there was some discussion that signing him to a permanent contract would cost about £3 million. If that’s the price this summer, it would be an incredible deal.
“Idah has demonstrated that he can offer a unique perspective to the assault. When healthy, Kyogo will always be the star player, but it’s crucial to have a backup plan or to come off the bench in some situations.
“When you consider some of the cash spent on strikers at Celtic in recent years, that would be small change to land a player who still has more developing to do and plenty of potential.
“If Idah does the business in the remainder of the campaign, it would be a crying shame not to buy him.”
It’s likely Idah will return to the stand-by squad with Kyogo Furuhashi leading the line against St Mirren at Parkhead tomorrow afternoon.
However, there is every chance he will make an appearance at some stage in the proceedings.
