Reasons Raheem Morris Might Try to Sign Kirk Cousins in the Unrestricted Draft.
Whether he enters through the draft, trade market, or free agency, the Atlanta Falcons are looking to add a quarterback this summer. Kirk Cousins, a veteran of the Minnesota Vikings who recently suffered a torn Achilles injury, is one of the top free agents. Washington selected Cousins, 35, in the fourth round of the draft to start his career. Raheem Morris, the head coach of the Falcons now, was one of the new coaches that joined that squad in 2012, Cousins’ rookie season.
Morris has experience working with Cousins and his methods, which could be useful in the Falcons’ free agency. Morris coached defensive backs for Washington in 2012. Atlanta might prioritize selecting a quarterback via the draft, but with the No. 8 pick, all of the top choices might be gone by the time the Falcons have to make a decision. Therefore, the Falcons’ best course of action for the following season might be to sign a veteran like Cousins.
In eight games for the Vikings this season, Cousins threw for 2,331 yards, 18 touchdowns, and five interceptions, putting him on pace for some of the best numbers of his career.
However, in the most recent mock draft from CBS Sports, Daniels ends up in Atlanta thanks to a trade up to the No. 2 pick with the Washington Commanders.
“In this scenario, the Commanders had their hearts set on Williams, and once he is off the board, they decide to move down,” writes CBS Sports. “The Falcons are more than willing to make accommodations and move quickly to acquire the quarterback they believe has the ability to guide a talented attack. The current Heisman Trophy winner has some growing up to do, just like any rookie quarterback, but his skill is captivating.”
