Javon Solomon Scouting Report | NFL Draft 2024

Finding the right prospects requires the Raiders to find a balance between their desire to win now and down the road and their need for players who can help them win now.

With the arrival of General Manager Tom Telesco and Coach Antonio Pierce, things are getting lively in Las Vegas. Their goal is to return Raider Nation to championship status.

One player who could help them do that is Troy defensive end Javon Solomon. The FBS leader in sacks in 2023, Solomon could be an underrated find on the third day of the draft.

Solomon finished his Trojans’ career with 183 total tackles, 49.5 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, and 33 sacks. A two-time First-Team All-Sun Belt member, Solomon has 52 career games under his belt.

Solomon does not profile as a player who can rush on the interior, but he showed the ability to do so in college. He was too strong for interior linemen, overpowering them with explosion off the snap, long arms, and excellent pad level.

According to Pro Football Focus, Solomon generated 48 total pressures in 2023. He was PFF’s fifth-highest-rated edge rusher in the country in 2023.

Solomon can rush the passer well and defend the run off the edge. He knows how to set the edge, which is essential for NFL defensive ends.

Although Solomon performed well against offensive lineman from the Sun Belt, he still needs to demonstrate his ability to do so against NFL linemen. He also rarely uses pass-rush maneuvers, preferring to use his muscle instead.

Solomon is anticipated to be chosen early on day three. Solomon might provide the Raiders more options in that area if they’re searching for a strong, explosive edge rusher with experience.

On April 25–27, 2024, in Detroit, Michigan, the NFL Draft will take place. The No. 13 overall pick is presently in the hands of the Las Vegas Raiders.
