Since they defeated the Phillies in 2009 to win their fifth championship in team history, the Yankees have not participated in a World Series. However, it appears that every year in the Bronx is either Fall Classic or Bust. Consequently, a busy summer appeared inevitable when the Yanks finished 82-80 last season, their lowest record in over 30 years, and missed the postseason.
The greatest additions to the New York team for 2024 have been the free-agent signing of right-hander Marcus Stroman and the trade for rising sensation Juan Soto, which was made by general manager Brian Cashman and company. Will the Yankees be able to achieve their goals with the moves they have made thus far, though?
Cashman stated that the Yanks are still willing to sign players before Opening Day in a Sunday appearance on MLB Network Radio.
“We will be receptive to ideas on how to enhance the team,” he declared. It must, of course, work into our framework. Is that a rotating piece, then? That piece—is it a bullpen? Is there someone whose place in the player group we could change?
Cashman is aware that the Yankees will be starting their 15th season since their last championship. According to him, the players are eager to return to the pitch as well.
With how the season transpired, injuries, poor play, and missing the playoffs, Cashman remarked, “We lived through a tough experience last year.” Therefore, I believe that our guys are eager to make amends for ’23 and leave a better impression on everyone with the ’24 product.
Even while Cashman stated that the Yanks “like what we’ve got and like what we’ve done so far,” as they prepare for the upcoming season, more summer work may be in store.
According to Cashman, “We’re still talking to clubs about trades, and we’re still talking to agents about players.” Both the free agency market and the trade front are topics of frequent discussion.
