Ruaidhri Higgins praises Derry City’s fighting spirit as he insists Waterford are ‘a real threat’
As he and his team get ready to host Waterford, a team known for their high flying, in the Brandywell on Friday night, Ruaidhri Higgins feels that Derry City’s players have already demonstrated that they are ready for battle this season.
The Candystripes faced tough opposition in their past two games—against Shamrock Rovers and St. Patrick’s Athletic—but they overcame both setbacks to earn four points and maintain their unbeaten record this year.
Had Markus Poom not scored a late equalizer in the 2-2 draw at Tallaght last Monday, it would have been a maximum return for both Dublin teams. Nevertheless, Higgins thinks his players have already showed excellent character.
“It basically tells you what we have in the dressing room, the personalities and characters we have in the dressing room to come from a goal behind in both games,” he said.
“We need that to happen. We want it to be a characteristic of this club that when we do go behind, we respond well and can still win games. All we have to do is attempt to maintain this small momentum.
