The Gonzaga vs. Purdue game left fans incensed after Zach Edey’s blatantly missed call.
With an Elite Eight berth on the line, No. 1 Purdue took on No. 5 Gonzaga in one of the most anticipated matches of the NCAA Tournament so far.
Fans were naturally quick to voice their displeasure with the way the officials were calling the game, focusing primarily on Purdue big man Zach Edey. The whistle is always in favor of the star center, unless you’re a Boilermakers fan.
Well, that was certainly the case again tonight – at least on one play in particular. Edey had a clear hook and hold on his defender and then completely wiped out another Gonzaga player, but nothing was called.
Here’s the play in question.
The way the referees called the play did not sit well with the crowd.
“Over the back, then Edey Hook and Hold. One of the fans said, “This is what we mean when we say he is merely a big person with a great whistle.”
Another person made the joke, “Zach Edey should just attempt committing felonies on the court & see if he gets away with it.”
“Sharing this horror by interfering with normally scheduled Phillies postgame programming. A third said, “Shoulda just called a foul on Gonzaga for just being in Edey’s proximity.”
