ESPN REPORT: The Indiana Fever Head Coach is Been Fired Due To…

The Indiana Fever’s turbulent history continues with the dismissal of head coach Marianne Stanley.

Marianne Stanley has lost her position as head coach, the Indiana Fever announced on Wednesday. For the balance of the season, Carlos Knox, the assistant coach, will take over as head coach in an acting capacity.

A statement from Pacers Sports and Entertainment stated that Stanley was nearing the end of her deal.

In a statement, Fever interim general manager Lin Dunn stated, “With this new collection of players, it is time for our organization to proceed in a fresh direction.” “This was a tough choice, and we hope Marianne has the greatest possible future.”

In February, Tamika Catchings announced her resignation as the team’s general manager. Dunn took over as temporary general manager. “I don’t want to put any pressure on anybody right now,” Dunn stated in response to a question about what fans should anticipate this season.

“At the moment, we want to get better and improve. We have a scenario where we can improve and everything is possible if we make the proper decisions in this draft and if our main players who are now overseas perform better when they return,” she stated. “I’d like not to predict that we will qualify for the postseason. We might make a run at the playoffs if we make enough progress.”

The Fever are 2-7 on the season after nine games played. This year’s WNBA Draft saw six players selected in the first round, including four of the top ten picks, thanks in large part to Stanley.

For a franchise that has had many difficulties lately, this one is just another. Since Catchings announced his retirement following the 2016 season, the team has a 42-123 record.

Prior to that, the team made the playoffs in 12 consecutive seasons, made three WNBA Finals trips and won the 2012 title. Since Stanley was hired prior to the 2020 season, the team is 14-49.

“I want to thank the Simon family and the Fever organization for the opportunity to lead this team over the past two and a half years,” Stanley said in a statement. “I look forward to the next chapter in my basketball journey, as well as being able to spend more time with my family.”
