Smoothy Signs With The Broncos Through 2025
Tyson Smoothy, a hooker, is the most recent member of the Brisbane Broncos to sign a contract extension, tying his loyalty to the team until the end of the 2025 campaign.
One of Brisbane’s bright spots in 2023 was the 24-year-old, who joined the team on a train-and-trial basis during the preseason before making his way into the starting lineup for the second half of the season and participating in the NRL Grand Final.
The Sunshine Coast native, a graduate of the Broncos Academy and former Brisbane NYC hooker, made 13 appearances for the Broncos in 2023, mostly as the No. 14 going off the interchange into dummy half.
The former Hostplus Cup Hooker of the Year was a favorite among teammates thanks to his accurate passing, strong defense, strong work ethic, and amiable demeanor. Despite playing limited minutes, he contributed three try assists and four line break assists for the season.
Along with Payne Haas, Pat Carrigan, Jordan Riki, Brendan Piakura, Reece Walsh, Kotoni Staggs, Selwyn Cobbo, Kobe Hetherington, Jesse Arthars, Corey Jensen, Deine Mariner, Xavier Willison, Tristan Sailor, and Blake Mozer, Smoothy is the latest member of the team to pledge to the club’s future until at least the end of 2025.
“After joining us at the beginning of last preseason as a train-and-trial player, Tyler made the most of his opportunity, and as the year progressed, all of his hard work paid off,” said Broncos coach Kevin Walters.
